FREELAND, MI — A small business that went out of business in Old Town Saginaw last summer has new owners with plans to revive the brand on M-47 in Freeland.
Fig and Honey Cheese Company, a charcuterie and catering company, opened in 2021 at 116 N. Michigan St. in Old Town Saginaw, but closed last summer.
Tammy Slachta is a former customer and new owner of the business.
“I've been a huge supporter of Fig & Honey since the beginning, and I was shocked when I heard it was closing,” Sulakta said.
Now, with the help of her daughters and her mother, Slachta plans to bring it back, this time to Freeland, where she has lived for about 25 years. Her new store will be located at her 398 Main St. location in Applewood Plaza, joining Katie's Konfectionz, Country Club Cleaners/Alterations and Lady Jane's Quilt Shop.
“I've always wanted to do something like this, and I think this will be an important part of the Freeland community and exciting for all of our customers across Michigan,” she said. . “Freeland is truly a fast-growing community, and I think Fig & Honey will be a great fit.”
Slachta said the space he is renting is being renovated and he hopes to open its doors to customers in late March or early April. Business hours are undecided.
She plans to share updates through the Fig & Honey Facebook page.
