The entrepreneurship landscape is becoming increasingly difficult to navigate as millions of new businesses enter the global market each year, bringing with them large numbers of managers and consultants. Competition is tough: only about 70% of small businesses make it past the first two years, and only half succeed after the fifth year.
This is where ESCP Business School's MBA comes in handy.
Founded in 1819, ESCP is proud to be the world's first business school. Their mission is to develop the next generation of multinational business leaders and inspire them to impact the world by addressing the environmental and social challenges facing our societies and economies.
The multi-accredited institution was ranked 4th out of 90 schools in Europe by the Financial Times in 2023. ESPC's MBA program is one of the best in the world, with more than 80,000 ESPC graduates working in their fields in more than 190 countries. The MBA program offers students the opportunity to live at up to three of the school's five campuses in Berlin, London, Madrid, Paris and Turin. Of the five campuses, Madrid and Turin are the last cities a student can choose to complete a specialization in the third and final period of her MBA program.
ESCP's MBA program in Madrid offers two specializations in particular that are of great benefit to aspiring entrepreneurs and those who want to improve their consulting skills. The Entrepreneurship and Consultancy specialization is designed to equip students with versatile and transferable skills and to prepare them well for a variety of roles, industries, and organizational environments.
Rethinking, reevaluating, and reshaping their thinking is the goal of the Entrepreneurship specialty. Here, students develop a unique way of thinking that helps them understand the world of entrepreneurship beyond theory and numbers. They study how successful entrepreneurs think and act, while learning how to identify new business opportunities and make informed decisions.
“Successful entrepreneurs are those whose ambitions and mindsets are aligned,” says Nico Muñoz, professor emeritus in charge of building the entrepreneurship specialization at ESCP. “To develop this type of talent, ESCP’s Entrepreneurship specialization provides students with a balanced education that combines deep theoretical insights with practical exercises.”
Muñoz believes that successful entrepreneurs are able to leverage their resources and create compelling marketing strategies, even with limited resources. Most importantly, a good entrepreneur is always aware of the evolving needs of their target audience and knows how to respond to them. “ESCP's extensive training prepares students to excel in areas such as investment banking, venture capital, and evaluating new business potential,” Muñoz added.
Similar to the field of entrepreneurship, the field of expertise of ESCP consultants goes beyond theoretical knowledge. The content of these courses is tailored to help students develop the techniques necessary to excel in the consulting industry from both a conceptual and practical perspective. Students hone their soft skills in a hands-on environment and focus on becoming a well-rounded consultant.
While hard skills like number crunching are important, soft skills are often the differentiator. Whether you call it interpersonal skills, life skills, life management skills, or emotional intelligence, it's important to have all of them to advance your consulting career. You need to know how to work in a team, communicate clearly, and manage people around you. This ESCP specialty of his utilizes all three skills.
“The MBA Consultant Specialization is a great path to expand your professional trajectory,” says Alejandro Ruiz, Professor of Consultants at ESCP. “Our students are much better prepared than other candidates for consulting and management positions.”
“This curriculum equips students to master economic consulting to understand the financial nuances of an organization and identify inefficiencies,” Lewis says. “You have to work hard, be fully committed to your studies, and learn passionately from the course activities and assignments. But there is no doubt that it will be worth it.”
