At the age of 16, Abdullah Al Janahi realized that he had an innate passion for cooking and decided to put all his energy into improving his cooking skills, which eventually led to his own This led to the creation of F&B brand Abdul's Barbecue. As for why it's brisket, Al Janahi has a very personal reason. “I don't like meat cooked rare, so I always wanted to make something like a well-cooked, tender brisket,” Al Janahi says. “Kids generally don't like bloody meat or steak.”
In fact, this is where Al Janahi's interest in Texas-style brisket began, as his curiosity about it led him to watch video after video about what he calls an “astounding and beautiful” dish. I started wanting to know more. “Brisket is a dish that takes time to be served at its best, and I've always wanted to try it someday,” Al Janahi says. “But I couldn't find a place that sold brisket that met my expectations, so I decided to try making my own brisket.My first attempt was at home with the simple tools I had at the time. “My family was the first to try my cooking. They were the reason I took the big step of starting my own business. I was hesitant at first, but I'm glad I did. In the end, everyone encouraged me.”
So Al Janahi launched Abdul's Barbecue as a drive-through F&B concept in Dubai's Al Quoz district in December 2022, when he was just 15 years old. Al Janahi, who has done intensive research into the science behind the dish, said she was excited by the cultural implications of her Emirati teenage self trying to master American cooking techniques. . After all, slow-cooking beef brisket is credited with its discovery in Texas, South America, and is a centuries-old cooking method that originated in the early 19th century. “We all know that brisket is a Texas-inspired dish, but imagine a young kid in the United Arab Emirates cooking authentic quality, or even better quality brisket. ” he says. “This is giving a message to our younger generation that if someone else can do it, why not us?” It also shows that it is dynamic and diverse, but in my opinion: Abdul’s BBQ stands out from its competitors in terms of its quality.”

Al Janahi's efforts to perfect the brisket are certainly working so far. The teenager is now hoping to build on his business momentum and also launch a food truck in the near future. “I can now think of myself as being in a place that I can be proud of, and I can also make my family and supporters proud,” says Al Janahi. “I want to run a restaurant that offers products that make people want to wait all week every weekend.”
