Blacksburg, Virginia – Duke sophomore guard ashron jackson The Blue Devils scored 18 points in Thursday night's ACC women's basketball game, but fell just short in a tough 61-56 loss to No. 12 Virginia Tech.
Jackson knocked down three trifectas, made 5 of 6 from the charity stripe, and finished the night with 18 points, leading all Blue Devil scorers against the Hokies.junior raygan richardson and a new student Oluchi Onanwa Duke added 11 points each (16-8, 8-5) and took the lead with just over five minutes left in the fourth quarter. Virginia Tech improved to 21-4 and 12-2 in ACC play.
How it happened:
- The first quarter was a close one, with Virginia Tech holding a slim 15-14 lead at the end of the first.
- Duke made the final three shots of the period, including Richardson's triple to right field with four seconds left, to pull the team within one point.
- Jackson and Richardson paced the scoring with five points each. kennedy brown and Camilla Mmsbo Added a bucket to each.
- The second quarter was a back-and-forth affair, with the lead changing hands four times in a 10-minute session, with one resulting in a tie.
- The Blue Devils, who started 8-2 against Duke and scored five points via Jackson, jumped out to a 22-17 lead at the 6:08 mark.
- After Virginia Tech responded with a 6-0 run to regain a one-point lead, Duke responded with the next five points to take a 27-23 lead with just under two-and-a-half minutes remaining.
- The home team ended the first half on a 7-0 run and headed to the locker room with a 30-27 advantage.
- Duke defeated Virginia Tech 15-12 in the third quarter. After Virginia Tech extended its lead to 35-29 on his 3-pointer, Duke fought back and tied the score at 35-all with a quick 6-0 scoring burst.

- Delaney Thomas Free throws and buckets from Onanwa and Richardson brought the Blue Devils within one point, 54-53, with 2:28 left.
- Virginia Tech made a 3-point shot with 20 seconds left to extend their lead to six points, 59-53, and defeated Duke University 7-2 in the final stages for the victory. Brown made a 3-pointer on the next possession to bring the game back to one possession, but two free throws stopped the 61-56 victory.

- The Blue Devils had 15 assists on 19 field goals, giving them an assist percentage of 78.9 percent. Defensively, Duke recorded nine steals and blocked six shots.
- Duke averaged 16.3 points below Virginia Tech's 77.3 points per game, ranking 23rd out of 24 games in which the Blue Devils held opponents below their season average.
