PITTSBURGH — The No. 13 ranked Virginia Tech wrestling team won seven of 10 matches and defeated No. 22 Pittsburgh 26-12 on Friday night.
Hokies redshirt freshman Thomas Stewart Jr. (9-3, 4-0 ACC) started the match with a 2-1 overtime defeat of No. 9 Reese Heller at 184 pounds.
Tech stalwart Hunter Catka defeated his opponent 17-2, and No. 4 Cooper Flynn defeated his opponent 3-2 at 125.
No. 13 Sam Latona (Tech) beat his opponent 6-4 at 133.
Second place Caleb Henson (Tech) defeated his opponent 10-6 at 149, improving to 23-1 on the year.
Tech freshman Rafael Hipolito Jr., who replaced the injured Bryce Andonian, defeated his opponent 10-2 at 157.
Second place Mekhi Ruiz (Tech) won 19-4, 174 to improve to 12-0.

Peyton Cormier broke UVa's career scoring record as the Cavaliers (2-0) defeated the host Spiders (2-1) on Saturday.
Cormier scored three goals, giving him 167 career goals. Doug Knight held the old mark of 165.

The Golden Bears (8-1) scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning to defeat the Hokies (6-1-1) at the Littlewood Classic in Phoenix on Saturday.
In the top of the 8th inning, University of California's Elon Butler hit an RBI double and scored on an error by catcher Kylie Aldridge, giving his team a 6-4 lead.
Rachel Castin hit a sacrifice fly that scored Tech in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Kasteen hit a grand slam early in the match.
On Friday night, Tech defeated host Arizona State, 9-0, in five innings in Tempe, Arizona.
Tech University's Emma Lemley pitched well with two hits, six strikeouts, and two walks.
Addie Green had two doubles, one home run, and three RBIs.
No. 14 UVa 21, Hofstra 3
Bobby Whalen had four hits and six RBIs on Saturday to help the host Cavaliers (2-0) defeat Hofstra (0-2).
Virginia Tech 10, Charlotte 5
On Saturday, Chris Cannizzaro had four hits, including two home runs, and five RBIs to lead the Hokies (2-0) over the host 49ers (0-2).
