A parenting conference led by Berrien RESA is scheduled for March 23rd.
RESA Early Childhood Education Director Kelenda Applebay says “Parenting Issues in Berrien County: Navigating the Parents’ Journey” will feature workshops and presentations on a variety of topics to help parents.
RESA started hosting these conferences before the coronavirus and received a great response. The goal is to contribute to improving educational outcomes for children in the county.
“If we want our children to do well in school, we need to make sure that parents have all the tools they need because they are their children's first and most influential teachers.” Applebay said.
Applebay said there was renewed interest when conferences restarted last year due to the coronavirus pandemic. More parents have already registered this year than in 2023.
What are some of the topics covered?
“We hold several workshops on the role of fathers in raising children. We are holding a workshop called “Seashells, Pizza and Acorn Soup''. This is about how to support preschoolers' learning. And of course, there's also knowledge about language and literacy. ”
Other presentations include emotional development, potty training, and the value of playtime.
The event will be held on Saturday, March 23rd from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Berean RESA Management Conference Center in Berean Springs. Free childcare will be provided on the day, and participation is free.
