AI – friend or foe?
Vasilii asks Lee-Ann and KJ how AI is impacting their daily lives and how they interact with it.
Lee-Ann said: “Other than ChatGPT and some basic tools, we haven’t really leveraged AI much yet. We’ve certainly used it to help publishers discover. I used it to help. I think it probably saved about 25% of resource time.
“I don’t think we’re at the point where AI can replace humans. Of course not, but it can help scale. This is a new wave of technology, and in this industry, we’re moving forward with technology. I think we should all explore that because we can be more successful.”
KJ commented: “There are so many different ways to use AI, and that’s the beauty of AI. I usually use it in campaigns and research content. Usually when we look at all the psychographics and all the demographics, When we were doing research and stuff like that, it used to take us a week, but now it takes us less than a day to go out and get everything done.”
Vasilii continued, “I remember about 15 years ago when I first started doing video blogs and stuff, it took me about a week to type these subtitles to transcribe them. . Just press one button, make your 20 minute fix and you're ready to go. Has completed! “
The importance of having a mentor
Lee-Ann brought up the topic of mentorship and said, “The biggest tip I can give to anyone on the publishing side is to mentor yourself. One thing I did for myself last year was get a mentor. I have someone to talk to about running a business, growing a business, how to stay focused. Because when you're running or doing something, you get so caught up in the weeds that you forget to think about actually working on your business.
“Sometimes when I talk to publishers, they say, 'Oh, everyone's going to Africa.' I'm going to Africa.” My question to you is always, “Why?” what is your reason? why are you doing this? If you can answer why, you have a good business plan.If you can't answer why and you're just doing it because you're FOMO and everyone else is. – Let's be honest, we all do it. ”
