A mother sparked a heated debate when she spoke about how much the local 'tooth fairy' would leave for her child.
After losing a tooth, most children rush to their bedroom and hide the pearly white tooth under their pillow in the hopes of finding the money the next morning.
The amount varies from household to household, but young children typically receive between about 50p and £1, but one girl ended up receiving a much larger sum instead.
Her mother took to Reddit to reveal the gift the Tooth Fairy allegedly left her daughter, explaining that she increased the amount due to rising prices around the world.
This parent immediately completely baffled his fellow Redditors by saying, “It’s crazy what people search on Google these days.
“I had to look up and see how much the Tooth Fairy would pay for a first tooth.”
After talking with the partners, the parents took a large amount of banknotes with them, as the baby had been looking forward to this moment for some time.
“We decided to go for $20.” [£16] Because I was so excited that my tooth fell out late. All of her friends have lost some in their time. ”
But what's more, mom didn't stop there, adding a special touch to the Tooth Fairy gift.
“In the end, I made an origami heart for $20 and sprinkled glitter on it.
“Then I put on Barbie's shoes and stamped a sparkly walkway on her nightstand.
“She loved it and immediately started checking everywhere for other shoe prints to see where the Tooth Fairy came into the house.”
But when the little girl told her grandparents about this wonderful surprise, they, like most people on popular forums, were in complete disbelief.
Her mother said her parents were “shocked” because at the time they were “lucky to get a quarter”.
When the couple explained why it was okay to treat their daughter to such a generous sum, the mother fired back, claiming that the Tooth Fairy was “suffering from inflation” just like the rest of us.
“We looked it up and it looked like one article said it was $10. [£8] up to $20 [for the] First tooth, then a dollar. [80s] up to $5 [£4] Then each.
“It's less than $100.” [£80] over a period of several years.
“If you think about it over the years, $100 isn't that much now.”
But while most Redditors were shocked by this, others claim that children usually don't care about money and are instead grateful that the Tooth Fairy visited them. There was also
One person, completely appalled, wrote: “20? Like 20 bucks!”
“That seems like a lot. My child got a shiny £2 and a note from the Tooth Fairy. She's very happy with it.”
Another countered, “It was supposed to be $5, but my son decided to keep his teeth so he could 'study.'”
A third wrote: “The kids don't care about the quantity. They just think it's amazing that the fairies came.”
Another person laughed and said, “$20! He's got some teeth!”
