The Santa Barbara County Genealogical Society has presented a virtual exhibit titled Santa Barbara's Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage, 1870s-1970s.
The exhibit presents the inspiring stories of 26 local families and highlights the culture, contributions and experiences of Santa Barbara County's Chinese, Filipino and Japanese communities.
Viewers will be able to explore the history of these families, spanning from the 1870s to the 1970s, as each family's story of resilience and cultural heritage delves into the vibrant past of Santa Barbara's Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community.
The virtual exhibit will include all of the original families featured in the Society's physical exhibit, which opened in 2023, plus new expanded content for an even more comprehensive exploration.
“We are pleased to be able to bring these important stories to a wider audience through this virtual exhibit,” said Ted Teiser Myers, president of the Santa Barbara County Genealogical Society.
“The history and contributions of Santa Barbara's Asian American community are integral to the heritage of our county, and we hope this exhibit will help preserve and honor their legacy for future generations,” he said.
