The former director of international marketing for the National Oil Corporation (NOC) is being held awaiting trial for failing to export oil and gas worth $2.7 billion, the Attorney General's Office announced yesterday.
The prosecutor's office said deputy prosecutors examined financial reports relating to the control of exports of oil and gas products from 2011 to 2017.
This led investigators to discover that NOC's director of international marketing had neglected his duty to collect more than 2.7 billion yen in payments that were due at the time.
The Attorney General's Office said this caused unjustified harm to the public interest.
