Michael Jordan appears to have taken delivery of a new private jet worth around $65 million.
A Gulfstream G650ER with flashy custom paintwork that includes the Jumpman logo was photographed on the tarmac at Palm Beach International Airport in a video uploaded to TikTok on Monday.
The jet’s tail number, N236MJ, includes the basketball legend’s initials.
The plane was registered last Tuesday to a company called MJ Air LLC, which is controlled by Jordan’s family firm Jump Management, according to a Federal Aviation Administration database.
The G650ER is especially popular among wealthy people around the world. Other owners include Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg, according to JetSpy data.
It has a maximum range of 13,630 miles, enough to get from Florida to Tokyo. Its top speed is Mach 0.925, or 610 mph at a cruising altitude of 41,000 feet, faster than any commercial airliner.
Depending on the owner’s customizable layout, the G650ER can seat up to 19 passengers and sleep up to 10. It’s unclear exactly how the inside of Jordan’s jet is configured, although it also has its own sleeping space.
Jordan was the first athlete to become a billionaire in 2014, and is worth an estimated $3.5 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
He made his fortune through licensing deals with Nike that began in the 1980s and launched his eponymous shoe brand. The former Chicago Bulls player acquired a stake in the Charlotte Hornets in 2010, becoming the NBA’s second Black majority owner before selling it last year.
His new jet is an upgraded version of the Gulfstream G550, which also sports flashy livery. It is unclear whether Jordan intends to continue operating the G550 alongside the G650ER.
According to JetSpy data, Jordan’s G650ER has flown 13 times in the past two weeks. Most of those flights seem to be related to the shipping process.
The plane flew from Palm Beach to Talladega, Alabama, and returned again on Sunday, October 6, according to JetSpy data.
In a video shared on the aviation subreddit late Wednesday night, the plane is seen landing at Talladega Airport before Jordan disembarks.
The plane landed in Talladega, just hours before the Yellawood 500 NASCAR race was held at the city’s race track. Jordan is the owner of the 23XI Racing NASCAR team and was photographed at the races.
According to the data, these flights emit 74 tons of carbon dioxide, about five times the annual emissions of the average American.
