“You can't be friends with kids!” – Whoopi Goldberg.
We recently heard Whoopi Goldberg give her candid thoughts on parenting on the popular talk show “The View.”
Goldberg is the mother of Alexandrea 'Alex' Martin and honestly said that being friends with her children is not the reality she believes it to be.
she said: “You can yell if you want, but I think this is the truth: You can't be friends with your kids when you have to do what you have to do as a parent.”

I don't think I can be friends with the kids. This means that you cannot become close friends with children. There are no boundaries or demarcation lines. Even though your children, especially when they're young, think of you as a friend, there's no line to draw when it comes to instilling discipline. They only think of you as a friend, so they don't mean it when they say you lost your position, and they don't mean it when they say you have to pick yourself up after them. So I think your kids need to know that you're totally attached and love them to the hilt, but never consider them to be your friends. It won't. Because it really distorts the boundaries of who is the parent and who is the child. Who instills the rules and who has to follow them?

People had a lot to say about Mr. Goldberg's advice. I don't think many of them understood that she was saying they could never be friends with her children, but not while they were young. Children need structure, guidance, and authority from an early age.
We understood her differently in that when children grow up and become adults, they can still be friends, but when children become adults, there is a different dynamic.
- “I'm sorry, love. I'm good friends with my mom. We're there for each other and include her in everything. We give each other advice and look out for each other. I'm sorry. But you come from a family of “crusty” women, and you yourself are one of them. Itās very clear.ā
- “Of course you can be friends with your kids. Friends with clear boundaries. I'll give you advice, I'll spend time with you, and I'll be there when you need me.” .But youāre not going to disrespect me!ā
- “I'm 43 years old, and I wholeheartedly agree with her opinion. There are many parents these days who try to make friends with their children, but that's where discipline often breaks down. When you start working on “
