Most parents have been there when they momentarily lost sight of their child in a crowd. But when it comes to how retired player Ed McCaffrey lost his son Christian McCaffrey, few parents know that. There. Because while most parents lose their child on the playground or when they run away at the grocery store, Ed couldn't find 2-year-old Christian at a 1999 gathering. super ball.
No, he didn't lose in the stands.
He lost sight of him on the field.
After he won the Super Bowl.
(Yes, I can't really relate to that part.)
The loving father of four joked about the experience. today Ahead of this weekend's big game as Christian takes the field once again. Not as an aimless toddler, but as a focused running back facing the Kansas City Chiefs.
“Well, I think that's just bad parenting,” Ed said of his own parenting mistakes. “I lost my child running through confetti after the Super Bowl. You might think I'm a little more thoughtful.”
The proof is in the photo
While Ed was looking around, Robert Beck sports illustrated focused on little Christian and captured the cutest shot of the little boy running with his little brother Max through the confetti. He had a big smile on his face and was wearing an even bigger jersey.
“But that photo is pretty cool,” he continued. “No one knew Christian was my son. He was just a little blonde kid running around who just happened to be in the picture.”
Ed thought that maybe that was when Christian first dreamed of playing in the Super Bowl.
On that fateful night in 1999, Christian was not only with his family, but with Kyle Shanahan. Kyle's father, Mike Shanahan, had just led Ed and the Broncos to victory. And Kyle is currently coaching Christian and the San Francisco 49ers to the Super Bowl. (Isn't it a wonderful story?)
McCaffrey family
Ed and his wife Lisa have sons Christian, Max, Dylan, and Luke. No wonder the boys were all successful soccer players. Athletic ability is built into their genes. Their father was a Super Bowl champion, their mother was a star soccer player at Stanford University, and their maternal grandfather, Dave Syme, won a silver medal in the 100-meter dash at the 1960 Olympics. It's not a big problem.
Lisa made headlines earlier this week when she said her family couldn't afford a suite this Sunday.
“None of us can afford it,” she said. “I’m not a Christian, I don’t have that money bag, [his fiancée] money bag olivia [Culpo]. Therefore, we are not in the suite. I'll tell you that now. ”
Culpo soon gifted his future mother-in-law an amazing multi-million dollar birthday gift. “Fake news! Happy birthday Lisa, I bought you a suite,” Culpo wrote on her Instagram Story.
Christian and Culpo don't have any children, but both are looking forward to starting a family. So he won't be in any danger of Mini McCaffrey getting lost in the confetti this Sunday if the 49ers take home the Lombardi Trophy…but maybe next year!
