Hastings Catholic Social Services (Hastings CSS) was named Business of the Year in the nonprofit category at the Hastings Chamber of Commerce's annual meeting.
The award recognizes nonprofit organizations that have achieved exemplary results in Hastings and the surrounding area in recent years. CSS won over just over half a dozen companies and individuals for awards at a conference attended by over 300 community members.
Hastings CSS Regional Director John McDonald said while accepting the award: “This is a tribute to our generous donors who support our programs, our dedicated marketing and development team who drive Hastings CSS forward, and his nearly 100 volunteers who support our operations every month. is.”
The Hastings Chamber of Commerce began accepting nominations for the Nonprofit Business of the Year award last fall. McDonald said it was an honor just to be nominated, but he was truly grateful to be chosen as the recipient of this award.
“Throughout the past 30 years, the Hastings Office has evolved and adapted to meet the needs of our community, becoming our current hub in the fight against food insecurity, poverty and homelessness,” McDonald said. “The success of CSS today is the result of his 30 years of contributions from past staff and volunteers.”
This award was determined based on the latest statistics from Hastings CSS. The organization delivered his 175 tons of food to Hastings' customers and his 14 food pantries in central Nebraska and provided $115,000 in financial assistance. Additionally, 180 households received rent and utility assistance. 60 tons of clothing was recycled. 62 families received furniture donated to Hastings CSS to help people in need.
More than 10,000 volunteer hours were logged at Hastings CSS. Volunteers come from all walks of life, belong to various churches and organizations, or are individuals. Hastings CSS volunteers and staff handed out 237 food boxes and his 181 holiday boxes.
Southern Nebraska Catholic Social Services, headquartered in Lincoln, has outreach centers in Hastings, Auburn and Imperial.
