- Here's what it's like to be an AI content editor.
This essay is based on a conversation with Sultan Ali. A 25-year-old AI content editor based in Bahawalpur city. in Pakistan, on how to make ChatGPT-generated text sound more human-like. Insiders confirmed his earnings through screenshots of his earnings and client work through PDFs of articles he edited. This story has been edited for length and clarity.
I started using OpenAI's ChatGPT to support my classes. Now, people are making thousands of dollars editing AI-generated text. So no one can tell that it was made by a machine.
My journey into AI content editing started a little after ChatGPT came out. With only a few months left to complete my MBA, I turned to his AI chatbot for help with assignments during the school year. As a result, I was able to receive high evaluations in two classes, and realized the usefulness of AI.
Since I was interested in writing, I decided to offer my AI content editing services through the freelance gig platform Fiverr. Since receiving my first order in March 2023, I have completed over 150 of his jobs from customers in the US and Europe.
The projects I edit include academic essays, business reports, blogs, and product descriptions, all generated by ChatGPT. The goal is to make AI-generated text sound as if it were written by a human.
How to edit ChatGPT-generated content
Here's how it works: First, carefully read the AI-generated text to understand what it is trying to say. Clients provide me with texts related to topics that are unfamiliar to me, such as philosophy, medicine, and engineering, so I need to make sure I understand the subject well enough to be able to edit the content effectively. there is.
I then ran the text through Grammarly. A.I. Create software to correct all grammatical errors. Once that's done, he manually goes through the text line by line to make each sentence sound more human. To do this, add 3-4 descriptive words to each line.
For example, edit the AI-generated sentence “I live in a house on Street 30” to “I live in a beautiful house near the fountain on Street 30.” I also like to add some humor to my writing so it doesn't get boring. This process will take at least 2 hours.
After adding a word, go through it again, delete the line, and continue running Grammarly. If your assignment includes quotes, make sure each one is actually authentic.
Once your text is complete, run it through programs like Turnitin to check for plagiarism, GPTZero to make sure it doesn't sound like it was generated by AI, and Originality.ai to identify factual errors. If your text doesn't pass these tests, go back and continue editing. If so, send an edited version of the text, including the Grammarly and AI detection reports, to your client for review and adjust the text until the client is satisfied.
4 tips to make AI-generated text sound more human:
1) Do your research: Be sure to read the original research and papers required for the assignment to understand what ChatGPT is talking about. AI can be wrong.
2) Check the citation. ChatGPT can create fake references. Make sure they are legal.
3) Change the scene by adding some words. This will make your writing more interesting.
4) Try writing it manually. Ideally, you should only rely on ChatGPT if you don't have time.
My clients range from students to fitness instructors to entrepreneurs.
Most of my clients are students who need to complete class assignments within time constraints. However, for larger, long-term projects, experts may come to me.
One of them was a man who asked me to edit a series of AI-generated e-books on child psychology. The other guy is a fitness instructor and he gave me 50-60 articles to edit for the website.
The biggest project I ever worked on was with a startup company that gave me a 50,000 word aviation instruction manual to rewrite. It took six months to complete.
Still, the job comes with challenges.
Sometimes you don't understand what the AI text is trying to say. Other times, clients ask him to complete assignments in 8 to 12 hours, which is simply not possible within that time frame. There have even been incidents where clients were disappointed with the final product. One client was furious with me because I rewrote the text in British English when he wanted it to be in American English.
So far, I have earned over $3,500 from AI content editing services through Fiverr.
Pricing starts at $5 per assignment and increases depending on word count and turnaround time. Still, I'm only doing this part-time as I'm looking for a full-time job.
Still, I don't plan on quitting anytime soon. Artificial intelligence is still new, and the demand for AI content editors will only continue to grow, especially among lazy and busy people.
I think the demand for my services will continue for at least another 6-7 years.
