Take a walk through downtown Wichita Falls and you'll find several businesses run by women who believed they could and did.
Several business owners believe that owning a business means empowering the people who use their store.
“Our brand wants women to feel seen, heard and loved,” said Ramble & Co. owner Katherine Hager.
“We provide a creative space for the community, which is why we do things with kids and adults of all ages,” said Shauna LaRocque, owner of CrashWorks STEAM Studio & Makerspace. It is stated as follows.
Katherine Hager founded Ramble & Co. in 2009 and has been able to expand the business over the past 15 years.
“OG is located right here in Wichita Falls and is the store we opened in Waco in 2022. In addition to selling our branded clothing, we also carry many city-specific shirts that make great gifts. ,” Hager said.
Shauna Larocque started her business five years ago after finding a niche that didn't exist in Wichita Falls.
“We don’t have a children’s museum here, so we just provide a place for kids to come and be creative, do something hands-on, have fun and learn,” she said. . she said.
The two women share the adversity they face in running their stores.
“Learning the e-commerce business and the retail business, and getting people to understand and trust your idea,” Hager said.
“I'm learning how to balance motherhood. We're homeschooling our kids, so I'm trying to juggle all these balls, some of them glass, some of them… It's made of plastic. Now, what can you drop today but not tomorrow? I think the balance was the hardest part,” Larocque shared.
Despite the challenges facing the industry, they want more women to start businesses.
“A lot of times we think that women are still at someone else's mercy, but that's not always the case,” LaRocque said.
“Women in particular think they can't do it, they can't do it, but you absolutely are. The only thing holding you back is yourself,” Hager said.
