There have been many amazing and moving events in Blacksburg over the past few days, but one Thursday night not surprisingly marked the end of an era. In a not-so-surprising decision, Georgia Amoore took to Instagram to announce the end of her stellar Virginia Tech career.
This truly was the end of an era for Virginia Tech women's basketball, and Amoore, along with Elizabeth Kitley, Kayla King and Kenny Brooks, performed in a way that Hokies fans could only dream of over the past four years. They won their first ACC tournament championship last season, the program's first Final Four appearance and the ACC regular season championship.
In a farewell post on Instagram, Amoor asked if he would enter next month's WNBA Draft, or as he still has one year of eligibility left, leaving the door open for Brooks to join him. , never mentioned his next move. Kentucky for the 2024-25 season.
Amoore leaves Virginia Tech as an All-American, one of the most talented women's basketball players of all time, and in fact, her number should one day be displayed inside Cassell Coliseum, along with Kitley's.
Georgia Amoore was not only a great basketball player, she was also a great human being. No matter what she decides to do next, Hokies fans will follow and cheer her on. She recently joined the Australian Olympic training team of 26 athletes who will compete at this summer's Paris Olympics. Of course, if she makes the team, her entire Hokie Nation will be watching her and rooting for her.
Whether she enters the WNBA draft or the transfer portal remains to be seen, but she will always be a Hokie and Blacksburg will always be home.
