THIBODAUX, La. – Louisiana Tech used a late-game blowout to defeat Nichols 6-4 on Wednesday night. Tech (17-6) scored six runs on 11 hits and one error, while Nichols (17-7) scored four runs on eight hits and two errors.
Dalton Davis contributed to the scoring in the first inning with a two-RBI single to centerfield by Kasten Farr and Cole McConnell, giving Tech an early 2-0 lead. Nichols then scored three runs on a two-RBI single and an RBI ground ball to take a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the third inning.
In the end, Tech struggled to regain the lead in the seventh inning, with Davis scoring on Ethan Bates' double to the right field, tying the score at three. Adarius Meyers (4-for-4, RBI, BB, SB) had a complete at-bat that night, putting the Bulldogs ahead 4-3 after an RBI single and forcing Bates to score from third base. . Will Safford (1-for-1, HR, 2 RBIs) then hit a ball over the right wall, increasing Tech's lead to 6-3 in the top of the 9th inning. However, Nichols scored another run in the bottom of the 9th inning, but the game ended with Garrett Felix's strikeout.
Bates took the mound as a reliever in the eighth inning and made his sixth save of the year. Reed Smith (1-2) pitched 1.1 innings for Tech, allowing one hit and striking out one batter for Tech's first win of the season.
