Thursday, February 1, 2024The lack of snowfall has shut down many winter industries. This includes businesses in Brooklyn Center. There are always cars lined up here during the winter.
On a rare sunny day in the middle of winter, Pop! People lined up in cars. Car wash in Brooklyn Center.
“If you look around, every car on the road right now is dirty,” said car wash owner Matt Durand. “That’s what we want to see.”
However, the crowds at warm-up car washes will be a little different this year because we haven't had as much snowfall.
“For us, having a good winter season – lots of snow – is very important for business. And it's not enough to have a little. We have to have a lot. No,” Durand said.
Durand said winter car dirt is most often caused by snow and salt on the roads. Cars that are contaminated with salt are more susceptible to rust, so it is recommended that you wash your car more frequently. Salt is not necessary if the roads are not icy.
“This is a weather-dependent demand business,” Durand said.
Memberships that give customers access to unlimited laundry for a fixed monthly fee can help keep your business afloat even during slow periods. But without salt, a proper car wash is not always top of mind for everyday customers.
burst of sunshine
Durand said Pop's traffic has increased slightly. When the temperature was near 50 degrees this week.
“This week is the winter season we're all used to. I think the nice weather had a lot to do with it, but it's actually the first time it hasn't been dire. And these cars… It’s finally getting dirty,” Durand said.
So snow is better for Duran's business. But they are energized by the sunlight.
“It's like people came out of the woodwork who didn't even know we washed cars. A lot of people who wash cars now say they haven't washed their cars all year. '' Durand said.
After the car wash, the customer is vacuuming the car outside. Mr. Durand said that on sunny days, all the stalls are full. Destaney Wallace, who was cleaning cars at one of the vacuum cleaner shops, said Thursday morning was a normal day.
“I live down the street, so this is very convenient,” Wallace said.
Sunny days are perfect for refreshing. Now's your chance to do some spring cleaning while spring isn't quite here yet.
“It's really weird because we're used to seeing snow and cold… it's really cold,” Wallace said.
Inside the washing machine, sunny days are a little different. Durand said, hopefully, more winter weather is still on the way.
“This is such a strange year! And you think it won't snow? I'm predicting snow in March…maybe April. Good luck!” Durand he said.
