Tour the swamp
The Redwood Area Audubon Society will host free guided field trips at the Arcata Wetland Wildlife Refuge from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday.
Bring your binoculars and meet trip leader Bob Battagin at the end of South I Street (Crop Lake) in Arcata to enjoy easy trails, beautiful views of Humboldt Bay, and a variety of wintering birds including ducks, snipe, herons, and ducks. Let's. and egrets, birds of prey, and songbirds. Also, keep an eye out for signs of river otters and river otters that frequent wetland ponds.

Bird watching tour
The Redwood Area Audubon Society will be offering free guided birding tours at the Humboldt Bay National Wildlife Refuge from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sunday.
Everyone will meet leader Ralph Butcher at the Visitor Center and take part in a 2-mile walk along a wide, flat trail that is graveled and easily accessible.
Just outside of town, this reserve offers an amazing array of tidal habitats, including tidal flats, riparian vegetation, coniferous forests, and bays that are home to a variety of geese, birds of prey, sandpipers, and sandpipers. Easy access. Sign up by emailing Ralph at [email protected].

About genealogy
The Redwood Genealogy Society's “Speaker Luncheon” will be held at 11:30 a.m. Feb. 14 at Locha's Restaurant, 751 S. Fortuna Blvd. in Fortuna.
The show begins at noon with former California Highway Patrol officer Martin Absher talking about how traditions are passed on, sometimes unconsciously.
The meeting is free and open to the public. An optional lunch of two tacos, chips and a drink is available for $15 including tax.

The Eureka NAACP's “Soul Food Dinner” will be held at the Eureka Woman's Club, 1531 J St., Eureka, on February 24 from 4 to 7 p.m.
