Main Street Skowhegan is accepting applications for the spring Business Lab & Pitch Competition.
The Lab is a free, fast-paced, interactive program with eight classes held over eight weeks, culminating with a pitch contest where participants compete for $5,000 to start or grow a business.
The program is designed for both aspiring entrepreneurs and current business owners and focuses on business strategy, finance and profitability, marketing and sales, according to a news release from Main Street Skowhegan Director Patric Moore. , business planning, and project execution essentials are covered in weekly classes. of entrepreneurship.
At the end of the program, entrepreneurs will submit a business plan and pitch their idea to a team of judges for a chance to win a $5,000 grand prize or a $1,000 runner-up prize.
Main Street Skowhegan has hosted three Business Lab & Pitch competitions since the program's inception. Sponsored by the Maine Technology Institute, last fall's cohort included five entrepreneurs, with Lynn Govoni's nonprofit Lights Up Productions winning $5,000 and Bytesum Technologies taking home $1,000 as runner-up. .
Sponsored by Skowhegan Savings Bank, nine fellow entrepreneurs last spring competed for $5,000, with Morgan Camp Care winning.
Application deadline is Friday, March 8th. The spring team will meet every Wednesday from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. starting April 10, with a pitch contest scheduled for June 5.
In addition to the spring contest, Main Street Skowhegan is adding a Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge to coincide with the June Pitch and a weekend bootcamp this fall.
