kung fu panda 4 Co-director Stephanie Stein recently revealed how Fast and Furious Five made its way into Kung Fu Panda 4.
In a recent Discord Q&A, Stein was asked about The Furious Five, which was a big part of the original three Kung Fu Panda movies but only had a brief cameo in the fourth. According to Stein, the original idea was to not feature the group at all, even though some writers and animators lobbied for their inclusion.
However, it wasn't until the film's marketing department essentially “mandated” them to be included that they actually became included.
“Lord Shen, Crane, actually everyone from Fast & Furious 5… they were last-minute additions,” Stein said. “Our Head of Story, Calvin Tsang, and Head of Character Animation, Sean Sexton, were the most vocal advocates for the return of Fast & Furious 5, but our marketing department intervened and “Speed 5'' was the first to insist that they needed to be brought back. They were added to the end credits scene. Therefore, their models were also made with sticks and glue.''

“As I mentioned earlier, I was one of the people who were very vocal about bringing back 'Fast and Furious 5.' But one day, a producer said to me, 'One line from Angelina Jolie costs $20 million.' ' (I don't know if that's true or not, exaggeration or not), so I stepped back,” Stein explained.
Kung Fu Panda 4 was directed by Mike Mitchell and Stephanie Marr Stein, and produced by Rebecca Huntley. The film features the voices of Awkwafina, Viola Davis, Dustin Hoffman, James Hong, Bryan Cranston, Ian McShane, Ke Hui Quan, Laurie Tan Ching, Ronnie Cheng, and more. I am.
