Food and Civil Supplies Minister GR Anil called on people to make proper waste disposal a part of their lifestyle.
He was speaking after inaugurating the Green Consumer Day celebrations at the Chavara Cultural Center here on Monday. The event was jointly organized by Chavara Cultural Centre, Kalikamli Residents Association, Government Girls High School and Edavali College of Technology and Applied Sciences.
The Minister said humanity has forgotten that the world is also for future generations. The new generation is not aware of the fact that the roads were built by encroaching on water bodies. Recalling the recent death of a cleaner in a waste-clogged canal in Thiruvananthapuram, Anil said plastic has become a villain when thrown away carelessly.
It was chaired by DB Binu, chairman of Ernakulam District Consumer Disputes Redressal Committee.
The Minister declared Chavara Cultural Center as an environment-friendly facility based on Haritha Kerala Mission's assessment. Fr Anil Phillip, director of the Chabala Cultural Center, received the mementos and certificates.
Mr. Anil also declared the establishment of consumer clubs at Cochin University, College of Technology and Applied Sciences, Edappally and government high schools.
