A new mother is furious after her in-laws secretly pierced her six-month-old daughter's ears and is considering cutting piercings out of her life completely.
A 32-year-old mother recently banned her husband's parents from ever babysitting her daughter again, accusing them of betraying their trust and going against her wishes.
“My husband comes from a culture where it's not unusual for baby girls to have their ears pierced, and his mother started pestering me to get our daughter's ears pierced a few days after she was born. ” the mother shared in a post on Reddit.
“I made it clear that I wouldn't do that and would wait until she was old enough to request it herself. In the country we live in, it's completely normal to have a baby's ears pierced. That’s not the point.”

But the new mom's world came crashing down after her grandparents left her with a red-faced, crying baby for the weekend.
“While my mother-in-law was caring for me over the weekend, she decided to pierce my ears without my knowledge or consent.
“When I saw this, I had a seizure. My baby was in pain and crying, so I actually took him to the doctor and got advice on whether I should have it removed.”
The doctor decided to remove the earrings because they thought it would bother the baby, but that didn't solve the problem.
“I decided at that moment that my mother-in-law and everyone else in the family (except my sister-in-law, who is on my side in this matter) would never have independent contact with my daughter again.” Until I was in my teens.
“What I'm worried about is that she'll do it again. To be honest, she's completely lost my trust. I said I would call the police if I did.”
The family doctor decided to remove the earrings as they seemed to be bothering the baby.
The mother's husband reluctantly sided with her, but insisted that the issue was “no big deal” and that it was best for everyone to move on.
Although this is a major issue, some argued that mothers should work to rebuild trust with their in-laws.
However, some people had the opposite opinion. “If he forgets about restoring trust, he will charge him with assault.”
One mother said, “If someone took my children and did something to them, I made it very clear that we, as their parents, would not tolerate it, and I would definitely go to the police.'' “I will,” he added.
“At the very least, I am reporting to make it absolutely clear that I do not believe that you can discount the choices we are making for our children. You are not the parents.”
Another said: “They mutilated children and they knew it was against the wishes of the parents.” These people have serious problems. I'm not trying to press charges, but it's a big deal to poke holes in someone else's child.”
Another new mum previously came under fire for having her newborn daughter's ears pierced just one day after she was hospitalized.
The mother, who posts on TikTok by her daughter's name Lala, shared an innocent video of her baby girl, who was just a few hours old, and her current baby, who is three months old.
Footage from her first 24 hours on Earth showed the adorable baby wearing tiny flower earrings, which caused an uproar in the comments section below.
However, some defended the decision, saying that in some cultures it is common to pierce girls' ears at an early age.
“Maybe it's just me, but the day my kids were born, getting their ears pierced was way down on my list of worries,” one woman said.

“Wow this is another level for me…I don't understand at all. And it hurts just like when they get older! Don't fool yourself,” said another. Ta.
A third added: “Why shouldn't people be able to choose if they want their ears pierced or not?” When babies understand these things, I'm going to let them decide. ”
It's unclear where Lara and her mother live, but it's probably not Australia, as her mother admitted that it was the neonatologist at the hospital who “pierced Lara's ears.”
“A 2-3 day old baby doesn't feel as much pain as a 1-2 year old,” she wrote.
“The hole is given by the hospital's neonatologist (a doctor who specializes in treating newborns) at the time of birth.”
The mother claimed that her baby's earlobes were soft when she was young and that her daughter shouldn't have felt much pain and, in fact, “didn't even react.”
