WESTFORD — Nashoba Valley Technical High School has announced its Student and Athletes of the Month for October.

Students of the Month are chosen based on the school's “Alumni Portrait” attributes: resourceful, responsible, resilient, courteous and prepared.
Sarah Bartos, a resident of Chelmsford, is the daughter of Matthew and Melissa Bartos and is a second-year honors student in the Culinary Arts program.
After graduation, she hopes to attend college and pursue her goal of becoming a pastry chef.
Sarah was nominated by Spanish teacher Amy St. Arnaud, who wrote: In Spanish class, she always chooses the option to “level up” and try a more sophisticated language. She was also the first to earn extra credits and participate in enrichment activities. Sarah also has an outstanding personality and she is a friend to everyone. Sarah is fun in class, excels in her studies, and is respected by her peers and teachers. She is on her way to becoming bilingual with her excellent Spanish communication skills. ”
Michael Prideaux of Lowell, the son of Mike and Lorene Prideaux, is a senior in the Design and Visual Communications program. He is a member of the Outdoor Club, Culture & Community Club, and Gaming Club. He is an honor student and one of the few students who painted a mural inside Pheasant Lane Mall in Nashua, New Hampshire, which was unveiled last year.
He plans to attend college to study programming and is interested in the University of Massachusetts Lowell and Merrimack College.
Michael was nominated by science teacher David McCloskey. He writes: He becomes resilient and resourceful for his next assessment by creating quizzes to share with his classmates. He continues to show respect to the classroom and other students by frequently helping with notes and math calculations, and has even offered to create a group chat for his class. He is respectfully called “Mikeapedia” by the other students. ”
athlete of the month
Gregory Carmel of Chelmsford, the son of Jeff and Lynn Carmel, is a senior on the golf team and also plays lacrosse for the Vikings. He is currently working at his Catalano Construction in Westford through Nashoba Technical College's Cooperative Education Program and plans to start his own construction business after his graduation.
Greg was nominated by golf coach Saida Bessold, who wrote: He proved to be a true Viking at the state vocational golf tournament on Oct. 5 when an opponent in his group was knocked unconscious by a golf ball in the head. Without hesitation, Greg was immediately at the golfer's side. His quick actions and calm demeanor helped reassure athletes that they were okay. I couldn't be more proud of Greg and how he handled a very confusing and stressful situation. ”
Groton resident Douglas Hall is the son of Sean and Liz Hall and a fourth-year student in the Engineering Technology program. He is a midfielder on the soccer team and also competes in the 400-meter dash, triple jump, and high jump on spring track for the Vikings. He hopes to attend college and continue his soccer career.
Doug was nominated by coach Mark DiCicco, who wrote: He is a two-time team MVP and is always the most talented player on the field no matter what team he is playing against. ”
