Australians are used to seeing QR codes when ordering at cafes and restaurants, but the technology is now gaining traction for prospective renters and property buyers.
Real estate agents are beginning to use QR code technology to attract potential renters and buyers. However, unlike typical real estate signs, QR code signs do not include the listing agent's name, phone number, image of the property, or even whether the property is for rent or for sale.
Instead, the sign is a simple QR code that directs interested renters and buyers to online property information.

One Melbourne resident who spotted the Casey Estate Agents sign described the new tactic as “interesting”, but another questioned the effectiveness of the sign and said he would “rather see a photo”. Stated.
“It worked, didn't it?” another person pointed out. “You wondered what the bright pink QR code was for, and followed it. You probably wouldn't have looked closely at a regular sign.”

Komal Bornino, a real estate agent at Casey Estate Agents Melbourne, said the company had been using boards with only QR codes to advertise properties for the past six months.
“Obviously there was some negative feedback. [thought] We were going to receive it,” Bornino said. Yahoo Finance. “But at the same time, we've gotten positive feedback saying, 'What a game changer.'”
Bornino said the main benefit of QR code signs was that real estate agents focused on the property in question, rather than renting or selling the property.
“We say the face or brand as a real estate agent is not important. We are there to sell or lease properties,” she said.
“There are so many faces on bulletin boards and cell phone numbers, so we're going to get rid of them all and just focus on real estate. If someone's really interested, they're going to scan that QR code.”
Bornino said some of the negative feedback on QR codes has come from people with disabilities or people who have been unable to scan the codes as they drive by.
“Some people were like, 'What is that?' That doesn't even make sense,” she said. “I don't like it.”
Bornino points out that many other companies are already incorporating QR codes into their boards, and believes their use will become more common among real estate agents.
“In some cases, we may have a generic QR code that links to an agent's website, but all of our QR codes are individual. They are printed purely for that property. , and when you scan it, you can go directly to the listing for that property,” she said.
Bornino said the board has no influence on how quickly properties are rented or sold, but this applies to boards in general.
