ALPENA – The Alpena News Business Expo and Newspaper Book Sale in Education will be held with a fun twist this Saturday. Revolution dance will be performed for attendees at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.
The Business EXPO and NIE used book sale will be held in the APlex main ballroom from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There is no admission fee.
“We'll have a lot of vendors in attendance,” said Justin Hinckley, publisher and editor of the Alpena News. It will be available at the meeting,” he said. “We're holding a used book sale of our very popular education newspapers. You can buy books for a small amount and contribute to a good cause.”
He explained that NIE provides newspapers free of charge to local schools, which can be used in classrooms to help with literacy, current affairs knowledge, and more.
“We deliver newspapers to classrooms,” Hinckley said. “And teachers can actually use those papers in whatever way they want. I've seen teachers use them in a variety of ways. It could be something as simple as “Let's find out.” And they go and read the headlines. ”
He gave an example of how older students use newspapers.
“I've seen English teachers use this word with older kids to talk about the difference between fact and fiction, opinion and fact,” he says. “Teachers will be able to use this as another tool to educate children.
“Thanks to the generosity of people who shop at book sales and donate to NIE throughout the year, this is all at no cost to the school.”
He added that he would like to thank everyone who donated books to this sale and was able to raise funds for NIE. Most books are priced between $1 and $2.
Revolution Dance dancers will perform twice at the event.
“New this year is Revolution Dance, a local Harrisville dance troupe,” Hinckley said. “It’s a great show put on by Revolution Dance.”
Breakfast and lunch items will be available for purchase at the expo, and door prizes donated by local businesses will be distributed throughout the day.
“Door awards are available all day long,” Hinckley said. “You can sign up at the Alpena News Tent at the Expo.”
He added that the book sale is sure to have something for everyone, with books in almost every conceivable genre.
“Your kids will enjoy shopping at book sales just as much as you will,” Hinckley said.
He said the event is family-friendly and everyone will find something they like there.
“Come on, let's have some fun,” Hinckley said. “We are excited to host this event every year.”
Hinckley added that he would like to thank the advertisers who helped make the Alpena News Business Expo possible.
