A recently erected business sign in an affluent suburb is garnering attention, but it's safe to say that not everyone approves of this tactic used to get people's attention. But the real estate agent behind this sign thinks it must be “insane” for people to take it the wrong way.
“Thousands” of motorists pass the 220m x 220m corner plot in Sydney's Neutral Bay on their way to and from where real estate agent Abdul Moussari, from Procell, has put up a sign advertising the land for rent.
The words “Rent for a daily fee to promote your business” appear above an image of a man with his overcoat flickering open, visible only from behind. The words “put yourself out there” are bold and typed in red font.
Drivers' reactions to the signs vary
A local resident who spotted the sign branded it inappropriate and reported it to North Sydney City Council, claiming it breached advertising guidelines.
“That's not funny, I really wish it were,” she wrote online. “Flashing is a sign of a more serious sexual offense.”
However, some called the sign “hilarious,” noting that it had the desired effect of drawing people's attention. “It probably helped him [the real estate agent] If you need anything,” one said.
A handmade sign reading “Home is where you take off your pants” has been erected next to the sign since it was discovered a few weeks ago on a prominent Falcon Street property. The resident who reported the estate agent's sign called it “Banksy-esque” and admitted he found humor in it.
“I don’t see any harm,” the real estate agent said on the sign.
Musali confirmed to Yahoo News that it was not the first time he had used a similar sign for advertising purposes, and said he was shocked that locals in Neutral Bay had a problem with it.
“I don't see any harm in that sign,” he told Yahoo News. “It's in a great location… You're basically exposing your business there. I can't help it if people take it the wrong way.”
He likened his approach to that of comedians, who say “much worse things” and claim they have a much wider audience than the number of people who see their billboards. Therefore, he does not understand what is wrong with “my little sign”.
“If it's taken the wrong way, that's their prerogative,” he said, confirming that many people have inquired about renting the land.
