Rose Byrne and Bobby Cannavale gave fans a glimpse into life at home raising their two young sons, revealing how they're trying to “resolve conflict” between their sons Rocco and Rafael.
During an appearance on The View on Tuesday, Bobby, 54, admitted it's hard to “juggle” his kids because they were born “just 20 months apart”, and revealed that while he rarely talks about his private life, he and Rose, 44, do their best to help their sons “control” their emotions.
When host Sara Haines asked who is the stricter disciplinarian, Rose was quick to answer, “We take turns. We take turns,” adding, “So each parent is with their kids every day, understanding where they are, helping them be disciplined, trying to find out what turns them on.”
Bobby then said, “I have three sons. Rose and I have two sons, and I have a son who's almost 30, so I have a lot of experience looking my boys in the eye. And it's funny, Rose used the word 'regulate,' because that's a word that gets used a lot in our house right now. Trying to figure out how to regulate them…it's like, 'Look at them, look at them.'”
Grilled about his “impending marriage” to Rose during an appearance on Today earlier this week, the Watchers actor added: “It's just a tightrope walk. Our kids are 20 months apart so there's always that competitiveness and one will take the other for a walk and the other will take the other into another room and we try to resolve the conflict that way.”
Rose Byrne and Bobby Cannavale appeared on The View on Tuesday and made some rare comments about their two sons.
In May 2020, Bobby posted a photo of him and his two sons, Rocco and Rafael, on Instagram.
“We try to be as on the same page as possible and then we talk about it, which I think most people do at the end of the night,” Bobby continued.
“I'll sit there putting cream on my elbow and say, 'Hey, what happened?' — that's me, by the way!” he says, laughing as he mimics moisturizing his elbow, before adding, “And then at the end of the night I'll sum it up.”
Rose and Bobby, who welcomed sons in February 2016 and November 2017, are notoriously private about their family life, but they did mention their sons in a December 2019 interview with Vanity Fair when discussing why they work together so often.
“It started out as a very practical thing,” Bobby said at the time. “We have kids, and they're getting older, and we don't want to spend time apart.”
The pair, who already call each other “husband” and “wife,” are starring together again as a divorced couple in the upcoming film “Ezra,” which also stars Robert De Niro, Whoopi Goldberg and William A. Fitzgerald.
Addressing his latest film during an interview with Today on Monday, Bobby revealed, “The good thing about it is, we shot it here in New York and New Jersey, so whenever we're working together, the kids know where we are, so that's nice.”
“Our lives are really… just schedules, everything is schedules, other than raising our kids. So we really try our best to stay together. We're always saying, 'We gotta keep the band together.' So we take our kids with us everywhere we go and try to work here as much as we can.”
“So whenever we have a chance to work together, we know the kids are nearby and everything revolves around that. But working with Rose is always fun. She makes me laugh more than anyone.”
Rose watched as Bobby explained how he was going to resolve the “conflict” between his two sons.
The Watchers actor posted this adorable photo of him and his son, Rocco, to Instagram in February 2020.
Bobby is also father to a 29-year-old son, Jake, with ex-wife Jenny Lumet.
The happy couple has been together since 2012 and already call each other “husband” and “wife.”
However, the conversation took an awkward turn when Today host Craig Melvin tried to ask Bobby if he would marry Rose.
Craig said, “I read in an interview last year that she said, 'The wedding is coming up, it's going to happen,'” to which Bobby replied, “Did she say that? I haven't seen the interview.”
“Do you want me to read it to you?” Craig replies, to which Bobby replies, “No, it's fine!” He then bursts out laughing and confirms, “It's fine,” before shrugging, glancing around the studio with a rather uncomfortable look on his face, and adding, “Yeah, sure.”
Craig clearly got the hint, said, “Okay, okay,” and quickly ended the interview, telling Bobby, “The movie looks good again. Bobby Cannavale, always a lot of fun.”
