The No. 1 Oklahoma Sooners traveled to Lubbock, Texas to take on the Texas Tech Red Raiders. OU won the first of his three games, 14-0.
Kelly Maxwell pitched six innings, striking out 10, allowing two hits and four walks to improve to 8-0 on the season, while Tiare Jennings led the way with two home runs and six RBIs.
Oklahoma University took the lead in the top of the first inning. After Ella Parker stole second base, Jennings brought home an RBI double to give Oklahoma a 1-0 lead.
In the second inning, Kinsey Hansen hit his seventh home run of the season, giving Oklahoma a 2-0 lead.
In the third inning, the Sooners took a commanding 5-0 lead with three runs on two walks by Jada Coleman and Sidney Sanders and the first of Jennings' two home runs.
Oklahoma added one more run in the fourth to make it 6-0.
Maxwell performed well throughout the game until he ran into a bit of trouble in the sixth inning. She allowed a leadoff walk, but she hit the next Texas Tech batter and drew another walk to load the bases. The veteran star then showed incredible composure, striking out the next three Red Raider batters and keeping the game scoreless for six games.
Then, in the top of the seventh inning, the Sooners' lineup put the exclamation point on the night by scoring eight runs.
Alyssa Brito led off the first inning with a single, then Tiare Jennings hit her second home run of the game to give OU an 8-0 lead. Riley Ludlum walked, and with one out, Alina Torres also walked. Singles by Riley Boone and Jada Coleman and a fielder's choice by Sidney Sanders added three more runs, then a double by Maya Brand added two more to make the score 13-0. Jennings and Ludlum walked to load the bases, and Quincy Lirio also walked to score Brand, making it 14-0 Oklahoma.
Peyton Monticelli pitched seven scoreless innings, had two strikeouts, and struck out a batter to end the game.
The Sooners improved to 25-1 on the season and 4-0 in Big 12 play.
Tiare Jennings went 3-for-3 on the day with two home runs, six RBIs, one double, and two walks. She regained the team's RBI title and has nine home runs and 31 RBIs this season. Her batting average for Jennings currently stands at .423.
Sidney Sanders, who was hot in March, did not record a hit in this game, but issued a walk in the fourth inning and had an RBI and an RBI. Jada Coleman went 2-for-4 with a walk and reached base.
Kelly Maxwell has started the last three games and is 3-0 with 25 strikeouts in 18 innings.
It was a powerful performance that set the stage for the weekend on a cool Lubbock night. The Sooners will face the Texas Tech Red Raiders on Saturday at 1pm CT.
