Real estate company Prologis has named deputy general counsel Deborah Briones as its next chief legal officer, replacing Ed Nekritz, who is retiring after nearly 30 years with the company.
Briones has been with Prologis for nearly 20 years and currently leads the legal teams and government relations efforts for Corporate, Energy, Mobility, Consumer Staples and Latin America. As CLO and GC, she will oversee the strategy and execution of all legal matters for the company's global businesses, as well as corporate governance, legal operations, compliance and litigation.
Headquartered in San Francisco, Prologis is a logistics-focused real estate company that owns warehouses, distribution centers and other supply chain logistics assets.
The company is also promoting Natalie Carey to chief people officer.
Hamid Mogadda, co-founder, chairman and CEO of Prologis, said, “We are thrilled to welcome Deborah and Natalie to our senior management team. They are both experienced leaders and experts in their fields who will contribute to our rapid growth in both profit and talent.”
Prior to joining Prologis in 2004, Mr. Briones worked as a corporate attorney at Latham & Watkins in San Francisco for five years. He initially joined Prologis as an associate counsel, then became associate GC in 2011 and deputy GC in August 2022.
Briones will succeed Nekritz early next year, who will remain in his role as senior advisor until 2025. Briones originally joined the firm as its first attorney and general manager, and has been instrumental in growing the legal department and playing a key role in the firm's M&A activities for three decades. He also spearheaded the firm's community efforts as chairman of the Prologis Foundation.
“Ed has been an integral part of our company's growth over the years,” said Moghadam. “He was one of Prologis' leaders, guiding the organization through the global financial crisis and positioning the company to complete its transformative merger with AMB in 2011.”
Prior to joining Prologis, Mr. Nekritiz began his career as an attorney at Mayer Brown in Chicago.
“It has been an honor to serve as Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel for 30 years and to be part of the team that built the best real estate business in the world. I have had the privilege of working with people who bring innovation, integrity and passion to everything they do,” he said.
