SALT LAKE CITY — New report from USA Today recognizes Utah-based Mountain America Credit Union as a Top 5 Workplace in America.
Trent Savage, MACU's chief human resources officer, said the company was recognized last December as one of the top five places to work in the nation.
“A large number of our team members, approximately 2,000 of our 3,400 employees, responded and shared their testimonials and feedback about how they feel about working here,” Savage said.
“We are the only credit union in the top five and the only credit union among the 100 largest employers.”
The paper defined large employers as those with 2,500 or more employees.
“Ninety-three percent of our employees affirmed Mountain America's high ethical standards and the highest level of recognition for the benefits we offer.”
How the investigation works
According to USA Today, the Top Workplaces Award is a program that recognizes employers. Results are determined by employees who complete a research-backed employee engagement survey.
To qualify for this program, organizations must employ at least 150 employees. At least 35% of your employees must respond to the survey questions.
Businesses wishing to participate can be public or private, nonprofit or for-profit, or government agencies.
Connection and development
Savage said the company works hard to make sure employees feel connected and have meaningful work.
“We have a very strong intention to care for our members,” he said. “We call this a team member blueprint, but it's really about what kind of environment we expect managers to create for their team members.”
The company is also focusing on training its team members.
“We put a lot of emphasis on leadership development and growth and development because we love as much as we can the culture that we've created. As we grow, Because I want to make sure to protect that.”
More needs to be done
According to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, U.S. companies face a worsening labor shortage problem. Many employers say they cannot find enough workers to fill open positions. Savage calls this the workforce gap and said his company is focused on it.
“We recognize that in order to retain talent and attract talent, we have to be a great place to work in order to have a fair share of the available workforce.”
To that end, he said he is always on the lookout for new ways to provide opportunities.
“We want to be number one. We have a great culture and believe we have a great place for people to work.”
