St. Joseph County, Ind. — Women Entrepreneurs Matter is hosting a Black History Month program.
Creating Our Own Legacy: Black History Program will be held today at the CLC Ballroom in downtown South Bend starting at 3 p.m.
Women Entrepreneurs Matter President Dr. Vida Harley says it will be a fun day celebrating Black culture.
It will be three hours packed with content celebrating hip-hop and black history. I'm talking about creating our own legacy. We are very grateful to our ancestors who came before us and made great sacrifices for us. But what I want people to know is that you can build your own legacy. Because when we're gone 10 to 15 years from now, people will know that we were the leaders of today. That's one of the things I really encourage people to take a hard look at themselves and create their own legacy,” Dr. Hurley said.
There will be a wide range of entertainment including local poets, dancers, singers and a fashion show, highlighting the innovation and creativity that represents Black heritage.
One of the highlights of the evening was the We Matter Award ceremony. A total of 18 awards will be presented to leaders who have contributed to the South Bend community.
Another highlight is the 50 Years of Hip Hop presentation, which celebrates and acknowledges the impact hip hop culture has had on society over the past 50 years.
“I think everyone should come out because it's going to be a fun day. It's a day of celebration. We work hard, we reflect on what went well, what didn't go well, and then we celebrate. This is us. It's a celebration of coming together to look at our culture, our talent, our passion and desire as entrepreneurs, business owners, and people who want to make a difference in this world.”
