It was a big week for the Georgia Tech football team. The Yellow Jackets were in Charlotte for ACC Media Days. On Wednesday, Georgia Tech kicked off fall camp with just four weeks until their season opener against Florida State. Not only did Georgia Tech start practice this week, they also got some big recruiting news. Five-star offensive tackle Josh Petty was reportedly coming in for a look and the Yellow Jackets might be gaining momentum in his recruitment. Florida State was expected to go there and was considered the favorite to win, but the Yellow Jackets might be the surprise.
Petty is expected to sign in August. If Key and staff can pull this off, this will be one of the biggest recruiting wins in program history. Petty is one of the best players in the nation, and the Yellow Jackets are competing with the top programs in the country to sign him. It will be an interesting few weeks before Petty signs on August 12th. In June, Petty listed his top five schools, including Georgia Tech, Florida State, Ohio State, Tennessee and Stanford. According to 247Sports, Petty is the No. 14 prospect in the country, the No. 2 offensive tackle in the country and the No. 4 player in the state of Georgia. Petty plays at Fellowship Christian School in Roswell, Georgia. He is one of the top prospects in the country, and any team that acquires him will have a player who can compete for a spot right away.
In the latest episode of the Bleav Georgia Tech podcast, RJ and Jackson discuss the start of the Yellow Jackets' fall camp, assessing the possibility of acquiring Petty and what signing Petty would mean for the program.
